Labour Youth mourns the passing of Bob Doyle
Issued : Monday 26 January, 2009
It is with great sadness that Labour Youth members heard of the passing of Bob Doyle, one of the last survivors of the International Brigades in the Spanish Civil War.
Labour Youth Chairperson Gary Honer said: "The loss of Bob Doyle marks a very sad day for all of us in Labour Youth. Bob was a true hero of the left, a man whose commitment to the eradication of fascism was an inspiration for all.
"In 2006 Bob Doyle spoke at the Connolly Festival where his talk about the struggle of the Brigadistas against Franco was one of the largest public meetings in the history of Labour Youth.
"As Christy Moore stated, 'I have long admired his zest for life and his willingness to go to any lengths to commemorate his fallen comrades'.
